If I was to do the same thing on my gus (that is buy the TEAC for use with my GUS) can I expect the same poor performance? Which drive sucks less; the TEAC or Mitsumi? How 'bout Diamond? IE which quad drive is best(fastest) that has either and eide or creative labs interface? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Apr 1995 22:00:54 -0400 From: s106275@cs.tut.fi (Anssi Saari) Subject: Re: GUS Daily Digest V21 #15 :>---------------------------------------------------------------------- :> :>Date: Fri, 14 Apr 1995 11:40:51 -0700 (PDT) :>From: Bo Stout :>Subject: DOOM MUSIC :>Message-ID: :> :>I just upgraded my gus max rev.1.8 to 1meg ram. Sharp" <0006796954@mcimail.com> Subject: GUS MAX and software Well, I just got a good deal on a GUS MAX, so I am retiring my Ultrasound. Anyone in the Dallas, TX Area interested, make a fair bid. It's got one meg of RAM and all manuals (even the box it came in). Onto the questions: 1> Has anyone tried out the new version of Linux (v1.2.1) and XFree86 (v3.1.1) with a GUS MAX? Any helpful hints? Does Doom/Linux work with it? 2> Has anyone tried "PsychoTron" with the GUS or GUS MAX? It's a windoze game, but it locks up with the error "Device not open or not recognized by MCI." This happens right after I choose the number of players. (The opening theme played fine.) 3> Anyone gotten sound on "Man Enough?" I tried all SBOS and MEGAEM options I could think of. Isn't there a new SBOS, like MAXBOS or something for the MAX? Lastly, 4> Kinda off subject: lots of people recommended ASUS motherboards here to be compatible with the GUS and so I got one. I put an AMD 486DX4-100 on it and now I can't get OS/2 to boot (and all diag programs say my processor is running at 66MHz???). Thanks for any help. What I was wondering was what kind of memory the MAX takes to upgrade. I heard something about the ACE taking a different ram. Does the Max take the normal 256x4 dipps? Thanks P.S. If you want sb-emulation get a sb... if you want a sound card get a GUS! :) Aric Cyr - acyr@you.wincom.net Windsor, Ontario, Canada --==(UDIC)==-- Septor Dragon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Apr 95 13:13:15 EDT From: bbaskin@mail.utexas.edu (Bryan K. Baskin) Subject: GUS Sound in OS/2 VDM To Barrie Rody, Actually, you don't need drivers to get GUS sound in DOS VDM's in OS/2. Just set your autoexec.bat sessions to a proper ultrasnd setting and run ultrinit. Works fine. If you use the Gravis drivers, then you need the ultrasnd setting to point to settings different than the Gravis drivers use. Plus they act kinda weird after DOS sessions, so i'd reccomend using Manley's drviers. They provide support for DOS VDM's, GMIDI emulation in DOS VDM's, and plan to provide SB and native mod-type support soon. To Anyone, About 4X CD-ROMs. I've also heard that the Mitsumi Quad wasn't too hot as with the Teac. A friend of mine picked up a Toshiba EIDE QuadSpeed for about $200 the other day. Seems to work fine. Nice and quick. Also, i've noticed that EIDE CD-ROMs are quicker if they are on thier own channel as opposed to being slaved. Later. I know one person who has had some problems, however. Actual win95 drivers would be nice. The best way to play games w/gus/win 95 is to do the following: c:\>attrib -r -s -h msdos.sys c:\>edit msdos.sys (it's a text file!) Change the BootGUI=1 to BootGUI=0 c:\>attrib +r +s +h msdos.sys [reboot] ---------------------------- Win 95 will boot to a dos prompt now. You can use your MSdos 6.X type multi boot configs.
